CDI cities harness knowledge and skills in internal audit

On March 20 to 21, 2019, 22 representatives from the Internal Audit (IA) Services of the Cities Development Initiative (CDI) cities of Batangas, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Iloilo, Legazpi, Puerto Princesa, Tagbilaran, and Zamboanga participated in the Orientation Workshop on Internal Audit conducted by USAID’s Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project in Manila. Through the workshop, the representatives gained a deeper understanding of the concepts, processes and tools in relation to internal audit functions. The value of internal audit was also emphasized in promoting effective, efficient, ethical and economical operations in the local government. At the end of the workshop, all cities committed to form the Association of Local Government Internal Auditors (ALGIA) and to conduct organizational meetings and the Internal Auditors Forum. USAID/SURGE’s Public Financial Management Consultant Dr. Rufo Mendoza facilitated the workshop by providing an in-depth discussion on the steps in formulating a strategic internal audit plan.
